Native human collagen type II, isolated from human cartilage by partial pepsin digestion under acidic conditions followed by differential salt precipitation, supplied lyophilised at >95% purity, 0.1 mg. Donor cartilage is screened negative for HBsAg, HCV and HIV-1/HIV-2. Type II is the defining fibrillar collagen of articular cartilage, the vitreous humour and the nucleus pulposus, and the dominant autoantigen in human rheumatoid arthritis and in collagen-induced-arthritis animal models. Human-source type II collagen is difficult to obtain, and a species-matched human standard avoids the cross-species epitope artefacts introduced by bovine, chicken or porcine substitutes. Use as an ELISA / Western blot standard, as immunogen, or as a cell-culture coating substrate — the matching antigen for the anti-collagen type II antibodies cat. 214 and cat. 415, and part of the human-source ECM antigen panel together with cat. 288 (collagen type I), cat. 889 (collagen type III) and cat. 436 (collagen type V). Bovine-source type II is available in bulk as cat. 826-1 and cat. 826-30.

STORAGE / RECONSTITUTION
Dissolve in 0.5 M acetic acid, pH 2.5. Stir or shake for several hours or overnight at 2–8 °C; the protein is fully dissolved when the solution is homogeneous with no schlieren pattern.
Lyophilised protein: ships at ambient temperature; store long-term at −20 °C or lower (stable for 2 years).
Reconstituted protein: store at +4 °C for up to 4 weeks, or aliquot and freeze.
Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of reconstituted material.
