Bovine collagen type II (atelocollagen), isolated from bovine knee-joint cartilage by pepsin treatment and extraction into dilute acetic acid, purified by differential salt precipitation and supplied lyophilised and salt-free, 1 mg. Type II collagen is the principal fibrillar collagen of hyaline cartilage, the nucleus pulposus and the vitreous humour, and is the defining autoantigen of collagen-induced arthritis. Use as a collagen type II standard, as immunogen, and as a cell-culture coating substrate — the small-pack format alongside cat. 826-30, the bovine counterpart to the human antigen cat. 210, and the matching standard for the anti-collagen type II antibodies cat. 214 and cat. 415.
