Human integrin αVβ5 (vitronectin receptor; ITGAV / ITGB5, CD51/CD61-family, alias VNRA, MSK8), affinity-purified from human placenta and supplied lyophilised, 5 µg. The purified heterodimer runs as two major bands under non-reducing conditions, corresponding to the αV (145 kDa) and β5 (90 kDa) subunits. αVβ5 is an RGD-binding integrin that mediates cell adhesion to vitronectin and participates in TGF-β activation, angiogenesis and phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. Supplied as a defined standard for electrophoresis, immunoblotting and ligand-binding studies; it is the companion product to the fibronectin receptor α5β1 cat. 638, and is complemented by the integrin β3 antibody cat. 879 and the integrin αIIb (CD41) antibody cat. 424.

APPLICATIONS
- Molecular-weight and identity standard for SDS-PAGE / electrophoresis of integrin heterodimers.
- Positive control and standard for immunoblotting (Western blot) of integrin αV and β5 subunits — pair with cat. 879 when probing the β3/β-subunit family.
- Solid-phase ligand-binding assays with RGD-containing ligands (vitronectin, fibronectin, osteopontin, latent TGF-β LAP).
- Coating antigen for integrin ELISA and antibody-characterisation work.
- Immunogen and screening antigen for the generation of anti-integrin antibodies.
APPLICATION HIGHLIGHTS — HIGH-VALUE RESEARCH NICHES
- RGD-mimetic and integrin-antagonist drug discovery: purified receptor for competitive ligand-binding and inhibitor IC50 screening.
- TGF-β activation biology: αVβ5 is a principal latent-TGF-β activating integrin, central to fibrosis research.
- Tumour angiogenesis and metastasis: αVβ5 is upregulated on angiogenic endothelium and many carcinomas.
- Adenoviral and viral-entry studies, where αVβ5 acts as an internalisation co-receptor.
- Efferocytosis and retinal-pigment-epithelium phagocytosis assays.
- Biomaterial and RGD-peptide surface characterisation for regenerative-medicine scaffolds.
